This Classic Flap Bag is crafted of quilted Lambskin leather, and features 24k gold hardware. Only vintage, pre-2009 Chanel bags are plated with real gold, making it a must-have for vintage lovers. This bag is dated from 1986-88 and is in very good condition for its vintage age.

THE PRELOVEDSTORY 
The Chanel classic flap bag is a one of the most important accessories in the history of fashion, along with its 2.55 Flap Bag predecessor. Coco Chanel designed her first bag in 1929, but like all the others available to upper-class women during the era, it was hand-carried and cumbersome. Having lived through World War II and seen the soldiers carrying their bags over their shoulders, Chanel had the idea of adding a single thin strap to the classic clutch. It was a moment of innovative brilliance that changed the direction of the fashion world. In February 1955 (thus 2.55), she debuted the shoulder-carried version. For the first time, it was acceptable for women of considerable social status to carry a bag on their shoulders.

The bag is a classic vintage of high quality couture, the most recognisable feature being its quilted leather exterior — a popular design found on the jackets of male stable boys. The rich burgundy colour of the lining of the boy bag also alludes to a momentous time in the designer’s life, as the convent where Chanel grew up enforced burgundy uniforms.

The original lock in the 2.55 model was called the "mademoiselle lock" because Chanel never married. Though the interlocking 'CC' logo was designed by Coco herself, it was only in 1981 that Karl Lagerfeld introduced it in the classic double flap model as we know today.
